The Gospel Will Be Preached

Good Day College Church,

This Sunday is the Fifth Sunday in Lent, and I have some good news to share with you. The gospel will be preached this Sunday.

Now I'm hoping your response to this announcement is something along the lines of, "But isn't the gospel preached every Sunday?" Well, yes, it is. The good news of Jesus Christ is "preached" in the singing of praises for His salvation. The good news of Jesus Christ is "preached" in the reading of the scriptures, which tell the gospel story. The good news of Jesus Christ is "preached" in the sacrament, when we eat the bread and drink the juice, which symbolizes Jesus' sacrifice for us. And it was preached in the story of Jesus healing the blind man, from John 9. It was preached the week before, in the story of Jesus asking a Samaritan woman for a drink of water, from John 4. And it will be most certainly preached this Sunday again, in the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead, in John 11. So the gospel will be preached again this Sunday!

The reason I am bringing this to your attention is because we still need to hear it. The gospel is never old news that we don't ever need to hear again. The gospel is so hard to believe, we can never hear the good news enough.

And if we, who are devoted followers of Jesus Christ, need to hear the gospel again, then maybe others do too. Perhaps sharing the good news with your neighbor is as easy as inviting them to join you in church... since they will hear the good news here!

Whether or not we invite others to join us, the good news is that the good news will be preached this Sunday. For that reason, it will be a very good day.

See you Sunday!

Pastor Mark
