An invitation to worship...
Palm Sunday and Holy Week
Good Day College Church,
We have been preparing for Easter for 33 days now, and with this Sunday being Palm Sunday, we enter into the last 6 days of Lent and one of the most important weeks of the church year.
We began preparing for Easter five weeks ago by offering continuous prayer in the sanctuary throughout the week. It has been humbling and inspiring to walk into the sanctuary at any given moment and witness someone praying. We also read scripture and offered the sacrament at 7:30 and 12:30. Those who have been able to participate have spoken of the holiness of that time.
This coming week, we will continue to prepare for Easter, by offering continuous prayer from the sanctuary and by reading scripture and offering the sacrament at 7:30 and 12:30, as we have been. Since it is Holy Week, we will be reading from all four gospels, the events of Jesus' life on the day that it occurred. If you have not yet had the privilege of praying and hearing the gospel in the quiet of the sanctuary, I invite you to participate during Holy Week.
On Thursday, we will gather in the CLC to commemorate the eve of Jesus' crucifixion, by reading His words to His disciples that last night. It is traditionally known as a Maundy Thursday service, from the Latin word which means "new commandment." We will relive that evening with scripture and song, as Jesus and His disciples did.
On Good Friday, at 9:00, and at 12:00, and at 3:00, we will read in the sanctuary, the story of Jesus' crucifixion. We will be reading at those times, since those are the specific hours that the gospels mention when describing Jesus' crucifixion.
On Good Friday, from 12:00 to 4:00, we are inviting families with children to participate in an interactive journey that walks children through the story of Jesus' path to the cross, called "Easter Love Letters from God." This will take place in the Kidsland area.
On Saturday, there will be no activities at the church in honor of the silence of that first Holy Saturday.
But of course, Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday! We will begin the service with the children waving palm branches, singing "Hosanna," and we will be distributing palm branches to all who want to join in. It will be a wonderful service of praise as we begin consideration of the sacrifice of our Lord.
I hope to see you Sunday, and throughout the rest of the week as well.
