An invitation to worship...

Once a Year Is Not Enough

Good Day College Church,

We're going to celebrate Easter again this Sunday, as we do. It's just too important an event in the history of the world to observe just once a year. So, we will respond to the news "He is Risen," with "He is Risen Indeed," again. We will be singing Easter songs again. We will be reading another part of the Easter story, this time from John's gospel. And we will witness again, followers of Jesus being baptized into the faith and into the life of the church. Indeed, baptism is one of the most powerful witnesses to the truth of the resurrection.

In this, we are not doing something unusual. On the contrary, we are simply following the church's forgotten tradition. Easter was never supposed to be a single Sunday; it was supposed to be a season. The "Season of Easter" lasts 50 days, from Easter to Pentecost, longer than the season of Advent and longer than the season of Lent! Thus, because this Sunday is "The Second Sunday of Easter," we're going to do it again!

So those who missed last Sunday's Easter celebration at College Church can celebrate this Sunday. Those who couldn't join you last Sunday, could join you this Sunday. It might even be fun to say, when inviting others to join us in worship, "Would you like to come to our second Easter Service this Sunday?"

Because once a year is not enough to celebrate our Lord's resurrection.

See you on the Second Sunday of Easter!!!
