An invitation to worship...
Every Sunday is the Same, Every Sunday is Different
Are you coming to worship?
The pattern of coming to church every Sunday morning is one of my oldest memories. It's just what we did. There is a comforting same-ness to Sunday morning worship; the rhythm of the people, the songs, the prayers, and the word. Years later nothing much has changed (despite moving eight times and attending 10 different churches)!
And still, every Sunday morning worship service is different because I am a little bit different than the week before. The truth is that we bring our lives with us into worship; we don't ever really "leave it at the door". So every Sunday worship service is a little different because the rotation of people in the pews, the selection of songs, the word spoken, and the burdens and joys that I bring with me are different. What truly matters, though, is that God is faithful every Sunday (and every moment in between).
This Sunday is Trinity Sunday, in which we reflect on the divine nature of our saving God. Psalm 8 declares the glory of the Lord in the works of his finger. The Old Testament reading from Genesis 1-2:4 reminds us that God is active and creating. The Gospel passage, from Matthew 28:16-20, reminds us that we are called into the work of God. Through all of this we will reflect on the nature of the God we worship.
