An invitation to worship...

The Beauty of Ordinary Time

Good afternoon, dearly beloved brother and sisters in Christ!

Am I the only one who feels that showing up to an event you know about (perhaps because you saw it on Facebook Events) is not quite as fun as coming to one you were invited to? Have you been invited to worship with us this Sunday?

This is the second Sunday of "Ordinary Time" - or Proper Time if you prefer the fancy label - and it's the first Sunday without a special biblical or theological reason. We're just gathering to worship our God because there is a rightness to it. I find it beautiful that the Lectionary contains ordinary time, because so much of our lives feels ordinary. The rhythms of work, school, dishes, laundry, projects, and the daily tasks of living can feel simply un-sanctified. But what if it's possible that God is at work in the everyday ordinariness of life?

This Sunday, as we gather, we'll hear a powerful moment in Matthew 9 where Jesus meets two people in very different places of need and responds with compassion and healing. Dr. Ron Dalton will bring the message, reflecting on the two daughters in Matthew 9:18–26 and the transforming power of an encounter with Jesus. Along with this Gospel reading, we will hear Psalm 33:1–12 and Genesis 12:1–9 as we consider God’s faithfulness to God’s people across generations.

Would you join us for worship this Sunday morning? I think you'll be glad that you did!
