John the Baptist, who was born to point people to Jesus, sent disciples from prison to ask if Jesus was truly the Messiah. This shocking question came from someone who had witnessed the Holy Spirit descend on Jesus and proclaimed Him as the Lamb of God. John's doubt arose because Jesus wasn't meeting his expectations of immediate judgment and vindication. Instead of criticism, Jesus affirmed John while pointing to the healings and good news being proclaimed. Jesus warned against being offended when He doesn't meet our expectations, reminding us to know the Christ who is rather than demanding the Christ we want Him to be.
