Becoming a People of Mercy
Forgiveness is one of the most challenging aspects of the Christian life, yet it is central to what it means to follow Jesus. In Matthew 18, Jesus makes clear that His followers are called to show unlimited mercy, not because it comes naturally, but because of the extraordinary mercy God has shown each of us. The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant serves as a sobering warning against receiving grace from God while refusing to extend it to others. Forgiveness does not mean excusing harm or pretending it never happened. It means naming the wrong and choosing not to let it control your response. In a culture increasingly shaped by outrage and division, choosing forgiveness is a powerful and countercultural witness to the kingdom of God. Judgment belongs to God, and releasing others into His hands is not weakness. It is an act of faith that sets both the forgiver and the forgiven on a path toward healing.
