Coming after Jesus.
The story of Jesus calling His first disciples by the Sea of Galilee raises important questions about following Christ today. These fishermen likely weren't meeting Jesus for the first time. They had been disciples of John the Baptist and witnessed Jesus' ministry in Judea. Their immediate response to leave everything and follow Him demonstrates the compelling nature of Christ's authority. When Jesus promised to make them fishers of people, they may have initially understood this as participating in God's judgment rather than salvation, given Old Testament references. The call to follow Jesus required repentance. It required a commitment to ongoing transformation and change. Today, Jesus continues to call people to follow Him, and like those first disciples, we often don't fully understand what we're agreeing to when we say yes, but we can trust in His continued work of transformation in our lives.
